Samrat Vikramaditya Mahanatya: Governance Lessons from Glory

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav positioned the three day Samrat Vikramaditya Mahanatya in Varanasi as a living tribute to just rule, drawing parallels between ancient Ujjain’s emperor and PM Narendra Modi’s interstate cooperation. Jointly inaugurated with UP CM Yogi Adityanath at B.L.W. Maidan, the spectacle conceived by Dr. Yadav brings Vikramaditya’s birth, coronation, Vikram Betaal tales, and Sanatan revival to life through 200 plus artists, three grand stages, 18 horses, 2 chariots, 4 camels, 1 palanquin, and a live elephant.

Epic Scale Meets Cultural Resonance

The central 80 x 62 metee stage hosts court scenes with Navratna’s like Kalidasa and Varahamihir, flanked by battle platforms and a Mahakal replica featuring an 8 foot Shiva Linga with Bhasm Aarti projection. Advanced graphics, 400 lights, an 80 x 32 LED screen, and fireworks create cinematic immersion, transporting 10 to 15,000 spectators to Shaka’s era triumphs. Dr. Yadav’s offering of the Vikramaditya Vedic Clock to Baba Vishwanath the first Jyotirlinga after Ujjain’s 2024 PM Modi unveiling symbolizes Vedic timekeeping’s revival, tracking 30 muhurat’s daily via solar alignment.

Modern Governance Echoes Ancient Ideals

Dr. Yadav lauded Modi’s Ken Betwa project as contemporary “sushasan,” mirroring Vikramaditya’s justice and praja vatsalya. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the emperors Ayodhya temple reconstruction and Nath Sampradaya ties, linking Kashi’s Panchang legacy with Ujjain’s meridian status. The MP governments Rupees 1.01 crore international award and Vikramotsav’s global accolades underscore cultural diplomacy, with MP – UP craft corridors amplifying the narrative.

Youth Platform, National Pride

Engineers, doctors, and professionals enact roles, blending loka ranjaan with history lessons on Vikram Samvats establishment. The event Padma Shri Bhagwatilal Rajpurohits script, Rajesh Kushwaha’s production, Sanjiv Malvi’s direction fuses spectacle with substance, from war elephants to courtroom wisdom. As chants of “Jai Mahakal” filled the air, Vikramaditya Mahanatya proved cultural revival can inspire modern leadership, turning theatre into a bridge between eras.
