Madhya Pradesh Sets New Record in Wheat Procurement, Strengthening Farmer Welfare

Madhya Pradesh has achieved a historic milestone in wheat procurement, reinforcing its position as one of India’s leading agricultural states. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the state has procured a record 104 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from farmers, marking its highest-ever procurement and reflecting the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and agricultural growth.

The achievement is significant not only in terms of volume but also in the number of farmers benefited. Nearly 1.4 million farmers have sold their produce at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), making Madhya Pradesh the leading state in the country in terms of the number of farmers participating in government wheat procurement. This demonstrates the growing trust of farmers in the state’s procurement system and support mechanisms.

A key factor behind this success has been the government’s decision to offer farmers a highly competitive procurement rate. Wheat has been purchased at Rupees 2,585 per quintal under MSP, along with an additional bonus of Rupees 40 per quintal, resulting in a total payment of Rupees 2,625 per quintal. So far, more than Rupees 24,000 crore has been transferred to farmers, providing a major boost to rural incomes and strengthening the agricultural economy.

The state also introduced several farmer-friendly measures during the procurement season. Small and medium farmers were given priority in wheat purchases, ensuring that vulnerable farming communities received timely support. Around 32.72 lakh metric tonnes of wheat were procured from small farmers before larger producers entered the procurement process. Such initiatives have helped create a more inclusive and equitable procurement system.

Another notable achievement is Madhya Pradesh’s extended procurement window, making it the only state in the country to maintain wheat procurement operations for such a long duration. This flexibility ensured that all registered farmers were able to sell their produce without facing logistical difficulties. According to the state government, wheat from all registered farmers has successfully reached procurement centers and storage facilities.

The record procurement comes at a time when global economic uncertainties and geopolitical tensions have impacted agricultural markets worldwide. Despite these challenges, Madhya Pradesh has managed to safeguard farmer interests while maintaining efficient procurement and payment systems.

Beyond procurement, the state government has emphasized a broader vision for agricultural prosperity. Efforts are being made to increase farmers’ incomes through livestock development, dairy production, food processing, and diversification of agricultural activities. The current year has been dedicated to farmer welfare, reflecting the government’s intention to create sustainable growth opportunities for rural communities.

The record wheat procurement is more than an administrative accomplishment. It highlights the growing strength of Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural sector, the effectiveness of its farmer-centric policies, and the vital role agriculture continues to play in the state’s economy. As the state builds on this momentum, its focus on farmer welfare and rural development is expected to contribute significantly to long-term agricultural prosperity and economic resilience.
