Sensitivity Is the Foundation of Good Governance

The launch of the Chief Minister Jan Vishwas Abhiyan in Chhindwara has sent a clear message that public service must be guided by sensitivity, accountability and timely action. The direct review of pending complaints in the presence of applicants showed that governance becomes meaningful when officials listen to citizens and take responsibility for resolving their problems.

The action taken against officials found negligent in cases related to farmer assistance, maternity benefits, social security support and land records is significant. Strict action can strengthen public confidence, but it must always be supported by a fair investigation and clear accountability. Government benefits are meant for eligible citizens, and no deserving person should be deprived because of incorrect information, administrative delay or careless reporting.

The campaign also draws attention to an important principle. Citizens should not have to repeatedly approach offices to obtain benefits that they are legally entitled to receive. Departments must improve coordination, verify records carefully and resolve applications within the prescribed time. A complaint system should not merely record problems; it should help prevent their recurrence.

The interaction with successful farmers, women entrepreneurs, students, athletes and innovators added a constructive dimension to the programme. Chhindwara’s examples of natural farming, blueberry cultivation, drone services, local product processing, rural tourism and sports achievement show that development is driven not only by government schemes, but also by people who use opportunities with courage and creativity.

The story of the young student aspiring to become a chartered accountant is equally inspiring. Government support for talented students from economically weaker families can help ensure that financial hardship does not limit ambition.

Jan Vishwas Abhiyan will become truly successful when its message reaches every department and every level of administration. Sensitivity, solution, transparency and accountability must become regular features of governance, not occasional responses to public complaints. Only then can public trust become a lasting foundation of good administration.
