Dehradun, August 27, 2026: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami received Rakhi from women who arrived from different parts of Uttarakhand at Main Sevak Sadan in the Chief Minister’s Camp Office on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The women wished him good health and a long life, while Dhami warmly welcomed them and extended Raksha Bandhan greetings to people across the state.
The Chief Minister said Raksha Bandhan is a sacred festival that celebrates the affection, trust and promise of protection between brothers and sisters. He said the affection and blessings of Uttarakhand’s women give him renewed strength to serve the state and work for its development.
Dhami said women are not only the foundation of families but also key contributors to social progress and national development. He added that the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, has given priority to women’s dignity, safety and economic empowerment.
He referred to the provision for 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, along with initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Lakhpati Didi campaign, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. He said these programmes have helped create positive change in the lives of women and girls.
The Chief Minister said the Uttarakhand government is also working continuously to promote women’s welfare and self-reliance. He noted that women receive 30 percent horizontal reservation in state government services and that the government is focusing on creating more opportunities and strengthening women’s economic participation.
Dhami said the Lakhpati Didi vision is being implemented rapidly in Uttarakhand, where more than 3.09 lakh women have become Lakhpati Didis. Women associated with self-help groups are building stronger livelihoods through local products, agriculture, handicrafts and other self-employment activities, while contributing to the state’s economy.
He added that initiatives such as the Mukhyamantri Sashakt Bahna Utsav Yojana, Mukhyamantri Mahila Self-Help Group Empowerment Scheme and Mukhyamantri Mahalakshmi Yojana are opening new avenues for women’s employment and livelihoods. The government is also working to provide better markets for products made by women’s self-help groups and improve their earnings.
