From investment promises to industrial growth

The chemicals and petrochemicals sector can become a major driver of manufacturing, employment and exports. At India Chem 2026 in Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav presented the state’s investment opportunities to domestic and global companies, inviting them to the Global Investors Summit in January 2027. The message was clear: Madhya Pradesh wants to be seen not only as a market, but as a place to manufacture.

The state has highlighted several strengths. Bina is emerging as a petrochemical hub, with a downstream petrochemical unit and an ethylene cracker and refinery expansion project expected to create opportunities for polymer processing and allied industries. Plastic parks in Tamot and Bilaua, the PM MITRA textile park in Dhar, gas-based infrastructure in Vijaypur and existing industrial capacities in Nagda add to this case.

The state’s pitch also rests on infrastructure and ease of doing business. Madhya Pradesh says it offers industrial land on lease at concessional rates, water banks, surplus power, plug-and-play zones, a road network of over five lakh kilometres, eight airports and six inland container depots. If these facilities are reliable and accessible, they can make the state attractive to investors.

But investment promotion cannot stop at summits and announcements. Companies need timely approvals, transparent processes, skilled workers and dependable utilities. The real test will be whether proposed projects move from discussion to construction and whether promised jobs reach local youth. Follow-up with investors, coordinated departmental action and regular monitoring will be essential.

Growth in this sector must also be responsible. Chemical and petrochemical units require strong safety systems, effective waste management and strict pollution control. The Centre’s support for mega chemical parks and research and development is welcome, but states must ensure that industrial expansion does not come at the cost of public health or the environment.

Madhya Pradesh’s participation in India Chem 2026 reflects a serious ambition to expand modern manufacturing. If the state converts investor interest into completed projects, it can strengthen its industrial base and create employment. The opportunity is real; the challenge now is delivery.
