Small and medium enterprises are important engines of employment and local economic growth. Madhya Pradesh’s decision to form a dedicated MSME Industrial Development Company can help address a long-standing need: smaller units often struggle to find suitable land, infrastructure and clear approvals, even when they have viable business plans.
The proposed company is intended to serve MSMEs much as the state industrial development corporation serves large investments. If it functions effectively, it can make industrial plots, basic infrastructure and support services more accessible across districts. The promise of land availability in all districts within two months is ambitious, and its success will depend on transparent allotment and practical follow-through.
The decision to allow private investors to develop industrial parks, with a subsidy of 50 lakh Rupees per hectare, can expand industrial space. However, such parks should be planned around actual demand and connected to roads, power, water and logistics. Industrial development should not remain limited to large cities; smaller towns and rural areas can benefit when local enterprises get access to markets and infrastructure.
The transfer of incentives to more than 900 MSME units and over 120 startups is a positive signal. Financial support can ease working-capital pressure and encourage innovation, especially for young entrepreneurs. But incentives must reach genuine businesses quickly and without complicated procedures. Entrepreneurs need predictable rules more than one-time announcements.
Land allotment letters for 75 industrial plots, with an expected investment of about 83 crore Rupees and 640 jobs, show the potential of such initiatives. The larger target of providing plots to 5,000 industries and developing 30 new industrial areas by 2028 will require sustained coordination among departments.
For MSMEs, the most valuable support includes timely credit, reliable power, skilled workers, market linkages and prompt payment from buyers. A dedicated development company can be useful only if it reduces delays rather than adding another layer of paperwork. If implemented with transparency and speed, these measures can strengthen enterprise, create jobs and broaden industrial growth across the state.
