Madhya Pradesh launched a statewide HPV vaccination drive targeting 8 lakh adolescent girls aged 14 to under 15, providing free single dose vaccines worth 4000 Rupees each to combat cervical cancer, the second most common malignancy among women with prevalence of 156 per lakh. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, addressing virtually from Delhi during PM Narendra Modi Ajmer launch, hailed it as pivotal preventive care under central leadership, with 758500 doses already supplied for 471 health facilities over March to May 2026.
Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla kicked off the campaign at Bhopal’s, Dr Kailashnath Katju Hospital, urging parents to ensure vaccination via U-WIN portal registration using Aadhaar or ID, with sessions from 9 AM to 2 PM under medical supervision and 30 minute post jab observation. Alongside, Mission Madhuhari debuted weekly Type 1 diabetes clinics in all district hospitals for insulin dependent youth under 18, distributing glucometers and strips to 759 adolescents across 16 districts, addressing lifelong management needs.
These initiatives build on broader health thrusts like Ayushman incentives, hub and spoke diagnostics offering 85 tests at PHC’s, telemedicine expansion and one medical college per Lok Sabha seat. They signal shift from curative to proactive models, integrating sickle cell elimination, healthy liver missions and women wellness drives.
Cervical cancer claims thousands yearly, largely preventable via HPV vaccine before exposure; Madhya Pradesh move could avert thousands of cases if uptake hits 90 percent. Mission Madhuhari fills critical gap for Type 1 patients often underserved in public systems.
Success demands community buy in, robust cold chains and misinformation busting. Madhya Pradesh proactive stance exemplifies scalable preventive health, safeguarding daughters futures and building cancer free generation aligned with national self reliance goals.
