In the remote village of Garh Pichwadi in Kanker district, Mrs Sago Teta has scripted a remarkable journey of empowerment through Chhattisgarh’s Bihan scheme under the National Rural Livelihood Mission. Joining a self help group, she not only achieved economic independence but also reclaimed her dignity and confidence, inspiring fellow villagers to follow suit. Crediting PM Narendra Modi and CM Vishnu Dev Sai, she hails these initiatives for enabling rural women to become Lakhpati Didis.
Once plagued by financial hardships, where farming yielded meager rain dependent income and family expenses weighed heavy, Sago formed the Gayatri SHG with nine other women. Bihans 60,000 Rupees community investment fund proved transformative. She installed a borewell motor pump, shifting from single kharif paddy crop to double cropping with rabi season, dramatically boosting yields.
Diversifying further, Sago embraced livelihood activities like mushroom farming, chhena production, vermicompost from cow dung, cotton pillows, vegetable cultivation, brick making, and garment sales. Her diligence yields 18,000 to 20,000 Rupees monthly, earning her the Lakhpati Didi moniker across the region.
Lifes turnaround is profound
SHG income funded education for three children and weddings for two, now saving for the youngest daughters via Mahatari Vandan Yojana aid. This synergy of Bihan loans, training, and government schemes exemplifies grassroots empowerment.
Bihans success stories like Sagos underscore its role in Chhattisgarh’s women led development. Over 1 lakh SHG members statewide generate sustainable incomes through market linked ventures. Yet challenges persist: Scaling market access, skill upgrades, and climate resilient farming demand priority. As Sago proves, timely support turns potential into prosperity, fortifying Viksit Chhattisgarhs foundation with empowered matrushakti.
