Record Fertilizer Rush: Railways Fuel India’s Farm Boom

Timely fertilizers for farmers top the government’s priorities, and Kharif Rabi 2025 proved it. Seamless coordination between the Railway Ministry and Fertilizer Department turbocharged supplies, hitting record rake movements. Farmers nationwide faced no shortages during critical sowing seasons, bolstering food security through robust planning and vigilant monitoring.

Numbers tell the tale. July 2025 averaged 72 rakes daily, climbing to 78 in August and 80 in September. The highest in five Kharif seasons. From April to December 2025, urea availability hit 350.45 lakh metric tons against a 312.40 lakh need. P and K fertilizers (DAP, MOP, NPKS) reached 287.69 lakh tons versus 252.81 lakh required.

Total dispatch soared to 530.16 lakh metric tons. First time crossing 500 lakh. Up 12.2% from 2024 25’s same period (472.58 lakh) and 8.5% above 2023 24. Urea rakes: 10841 (8% YoY rise). P and K: 8806 (18% jump). Monthly trends from July to mid January show steady gains over last year, thanks to synergy with ports, states, and fertilizer firms.

This is not luck. It is strategy. Faster rakes meant on time delivery to every corner, empowering farmers and stabilizing yields. As India eyes self reliance, such feats ensure no field goes hungry.
