Industrial Parks Can Drive Balanced Growth

The vision presented by Madhya Pradesh at the Apex Monitoring Authority meeting of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust reflects a clear ambition to become one of India’s leading industrial and investment destinations. The proposal to develop 11 industrial parks across 9,047 acres under the Bharat Industrial Development Scheme is a significant step in that direction.

With a proposed project cost of 8,144.35 crore Rupees, these parks can create investment ready infrastructure and provide industries with plug and play facilities. Their distribution across Ujjain, Dhar, Dewas, Shajapur, Ratlam, Sehore, Sagar, Guna, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Katni and Rewa can help spread industrial development beyond a few established cities.

The sectoral diversity of the proposed parks is encouraging. Textiles, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, renewable energy equipment, semiconductors, information technology and IT enabled services can create a broad industrial base. The proposed textile park at Bhensola, linked with the PM MITRA Park in Dhar, can strengthen the entire textile value chain and generate opportunities for production, processing and employment.

Industrial development must also be inclusive. The proposed day care centres, secure hostels, health facilities, canteens and CCTV based security systems for women workers are important measures. Women will participate more actively in the industrial workforce only when workplaces are safe, supportive and compatible with family responsibilities.

The success of these parks will depend on execution. Land, roads, power, water, logistics, skilled workers and environmental safeguards must be made available on time. Clearances should remain transparent, and projects should be monitored so that proposals do not remain limited to presentations and documents.

Balanced industrial development can reduce regional inequality and create employment closer to people’s homes. If the proposed parks are implemented with efficiency and accountability, Madhya Pradesh can attract new investment while building a stronger, more diverse and employment oriented economy.
