In a significant step for peace and reintegration, Bijapur district has approved the disbursement of 4.84 crore Rupees as incentive amounts for surrendered Naxalites under the Chhattisgarh government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy 2025. The money will be placed as three year fixed deposits in nationalised banks in the names of the beneficiaries. Withdrawals will be allowed only after certification by the Superintendent of Police, as per policy conditions. The aim is clear. Provide economic stability so that those who have left violence can build a dignified life in the mainstream.
This is more than a cash transfer. It is a signal that the state is serious about rehabilitation, not just security operations. In a district that has seen decades of conflict, surrender is only the first step. The harder part is staying out. That requires income, social acceptance and a sense of future. A fixed deposit provides a cushion. It prevents immediate distress from forcing a return to old networks. It also creates a structured exit, with police oversight ensuring that funds are used responsibly.
Why does this matter. Peace is not just the absence of firing. It is the presence of opportunity.
