New Delhi, October 13, 2026: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to seek early approval for rural-road projects proposed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Dhami said Uttarakhand has submitted proposals for the construction of 315 roads under the scheme. If approved, the projects are expected to bring road connectivity to 610 habitations, particularly in remote, rural and difficult-to-reach parts of the state.
Push for Better Access in Remote Areas
The Chief Minister said reliable road access is a vital development requirement in Uttarakhand’s challenging mountain terrain. Improved connectivity would make travel easier for residents and help them reach essential services such as schools, hospitals, markets, employment opportunities and public facilities.
He said the proposed roads would also support the development of border and remote areas while strengthening rural economic activity.
Dhami requested the Union government to approve the proposals at the earliest so work can move forward without delay.
Centre Assures Action
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured the Chief Minister that necessary action would be taken to expedite approval of the road proposals submitted by Uttarakhand.
Dhami thanked the Centre for its support and said the state government remains focused on extending basic infrastructure and public services to distant rural communities.
The proposed PMGSY road network, he said, would improve day-to-day mobility for rural residents and contribute to Uttarakhand’s broader development.
