Two Years of Good Governance, Jashpur’s New Identity of Development

In the last two years, Jashpur has begun to script a new chapter in its history. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, this tribal dominated district has moved from aspiration to achievement, turning long pending demands into visible gains on the ground. As his government completes two years in office on 13 December, Jashpur stands as a vivid illustration of how focused governance can reshape the development map of an entire region.

From the very first cabinet meeting, housing for the poor was placed at the center of the government’s agenda. The decision to sanction homes for 18 lakh families across the state translated into 52,760 approved Pradhan Mantri Awas in Jashpur alone. For thousands of families, a concrete house is not just a structure of brick and mortar; it is the foundation of dignity, safety, and long term security. Where once there were kutcha dwellings vulnerable to rain and hardship, there are now stable homes that anchor hope for the next generation.

Women have emerged as the second pillar of this transformation. Through the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, the state resolved to provide Rupees 1,000 per month to 70 lakh women. In Jashpur, more than two lakh women have already received over Rupees 448 crore in direct financial support. This regular income has strengthened household budgets, encouraged savings, and allowed many women to support small economic activities, from livestock rearing to petty trade. Economic assistance here is not symbolic; it is slowly changing the balance of decision making within families.

For farmers, the last two years have brought a measure of long awaited justice. The payment of two years of pending paddy bonus from the previous government’s tenure restored confidence that commitments to farmers would be honoured. More than fifty thousand farmers in the district sold paddy at Rupees 3,100 per quintal, while 1,23,168 farmers received over Rupees 308 crore under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. Together, these measures have injected stability into rural incomes and strengthened the sense that agriculture remains a respected and supported occupation.

Health infrastructure, long a weak link in many tribal districts, has begun to see structural change. The approval of a new modern district hospital building promises to reduce the compulsion of travelling to distant cities for treatment. The strengthening of primary and community health centres with additional doctors, nurses, equipment, and 108 Sanjeevani ambulances has improved emergency response and basic care. For ordinary families, this means that illness no longer automatically translates into long and costly journeys.

Roads have become the visible arteries of this new phase of development. With large allocations for construction and repair, areas once considered remote are now linked by better roads. Improved connectivity has reduced travel time, eased access to markets, schools, and hospitals, and opened new possibilities for trade and mobility. For many villages, a paved road is the first tangible sign that the state has finally reached them.

On the energy front, new power substations and upgrades to transformers and distribution lines have strengthened the quality and reliability of electricity supply. Complaints of low voltage and frequent outages have decreased, and households, schools, and small enterprises alike are benefiting from more stable power. Better electricity is quietly powering improved learning, higher productivity, and a better quality of daily life.

Education too has received focused attention. The sanction of two new colleges in the district has reduced the need for local students to migrate outside Jashpur for higher studies. Investments in school buildings, smart classrooms, hostels, and basic infrastructure are gradually improving the learning environment. In a district where distance and poverty often interrupt education, these reforms are expanding the horizon of opportunity for rural youth.

Tourism and irrigation complete this emerging picture. With its forests, waterfalls, and rich tribal culture, Jashpur has long had the potential to become a niche tourism destination. Dedicated allocations for beautification, access roads, and basic facilities at tourist spots are beginning to convert natural beauty into economic opportunity. Simultaneously, the approval of multiple irrigation schemes, including tube wells, anicuts, ponds, and small structures, is bringing water back to the fields and green back to the landscape.

In sum, Jashpur today reflects a multi dimensional development story: secure homes for the poor, assured support for women, renewed respect for farmers, stronger health and education systems, better roads and power, and new momentum in tourism and irrigation. Under the stewardship of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, promises have begun to take institutional form. The people of Jashpur now look to the coming years with a sense of grounded confidence that this pace of progress will not only continue but deepen, carrying development to every village and every household.
