Freebies cannot compensate for the average Delhi resident’s inability to live a safe life without the agony of waterlogging.
Three UPSC aspirants drowned in the basement of a coaching center in the national capital, highlighting the failure of agencies to provide basic amenities and safety for citizens.
Authorities, including coaching center proprietors, city officials, and auditing organizations, were negligent and violated norms. This is not the first time coaching centers have faced negative attention. Historically, terrible situations have been caused by overcrowding and cutting shortcuts. Inquiries, promises of action, and platitudes are repeated until another catastrophe occurs.
Three students from Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala were killed at a tutoring center in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar due to premeditated rule violations. The study center converted the basement into a library after promising it would only be used for storage. On that fateful day, over 35 students were present when drain water flooded the space. If the government had desilted the sewers, this tragedy would not have happened. Recently, another UPSC aspirant was electrocuted while strolling on a wet street in Delhi’s Patel Nagar.
The Aam Aadmi Party and the Opposition BJP in Delhi are blaming each other for the current political situation. The truth is that the Kejriwal government must accept responsibility for failing to carry out municipal tasks. The rainy season causes significant hardship for the Capital’s residents. Despite a decade in power, the AAP administration has not addressed structural issues. No number of freebies can compensate for the average Delhiite’s inability to live a safe and secure life without experiencing waterlogging or electrocution. Promises to transform Delhi into a world-class city have proven to be hollow hyperbole.
