In the remote village of Sanna in the Bagicha development block of Jashpur district, the dream of a humble family is taking shape brick by brick. For Mahanti Bek, who has spent years in a fragile mud and tin hut with her husband Sunil and two small children, the sight of a permanent home rising under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) is nothing short of transformative. What once seemed an impossible aspiration has now become a symbol of security, stability, and self respect.
Mahanti recalls the years of hardship when wages from daily labor barely covered her family’s survival. The hope of a solid home seemed distant until the government’s flagship rural housing programme reached her doorstep. With the financial assistance sanctioned under the scheme, construction progressed smoothly, offering not only shelter but a renewed sense of belonging.
The empowerment, however, is not limited to walls and roofs. Through the Mahatari Vandan Yojana, Mahanti receives monthly assistance of Rupees 1000, which helps her meet her children’s educational and nutritional needs. The Ujjwala Yojana has brought clean fuel to her kitchen, replacing the soot and struggle of firewood with the dignity of convenience.
She smiles with quiet pride as she watches the concrete walls of her new home rise. “During the rains, our thatched roof used to leak, and in winter the wind would chill us through the cracks,” she says softly. “Now, we will soon live in a safe, strong home. For this, I am deeply grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, who turned our dream of a permanent house into reality.”
This story from rural Chhattisgarh captures the deeper purpose of public welfare: not charity, but transformation, enabling every family to live not just with shelter, but with dignity, safety, and pride.
