Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has emphasised that Madhya Pradesh holds immense potential in livestock development, with breed improvement serving as a powerful catalyst to unlock these opportunities. The state governments comprehensive Hiranyagarbha campaign is driving this transformation, aiming to cover 50 per cent of artificial insemination among cattle and buffalo within the next five years as per central directives. For the current financial year, a target of 28.04 lakh inseminations covering about 33 per cent of female livestock has been set, with over 11.76 lakh procedures already completed between April and November 2025.
According to the recent 20th Livestock Census, the state boasts over 290.57 lakh cattle and buffalo, of which 77.18 lakh (about 27 per cent) belong to improved breeds. The Hiranyagarbha campaign is not only enhancing genetic quality but also making goshalas self reliant by extending artificial insemination to 691 selected facilities. This dual focus promises better livestock productivity and economic viability for rural institutions.

Under the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), the state topped the nation in Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccinations during the fourth and fifth rounds of 2024 25, with online recording. The ongoing sixth round has covered 154.16 lakh animals so far. In the National Livestock Missions Entrepreneurship Development Programme, Madhya Pradesh ranks second nationally, showcasing its proactive approach.
Doorstep artificial insemination services through Maitri workers one per panchayat since 2014 15 are empowering rural educated youth with self employment while directly benefiting farmers. Over 2,399 Maitri workers have been trained this year, with 1,227 inactive ones refreshed. More than 1.28 lakh inseminations have been achieved so far, positioning the state as an emerging leader in livestock development and breed improvement.
These initiatives are strengthening rural economies, boosting farmers incomes and fostering innovation. By turning livestock rearing into a profitable venture, Madhya Pradesh is paving the way for prosperous pastoral communities and sustainable agricultural growth.
