One Station One Product: Reviving India’s Artisanal Legacy Through Rails

Indian Railways’ One Station One Product (OSOP) scheme has emerged as a potent catalyst for grassroots entrepreneurship, transforming platforms into vibrant showcases of regional diversity. By integrating local heritage with the national rail network, OSOP not only enriches passenger experiences but also fosters inclusive economic growth. As of January 19, 2026, the initiative spans 2,002 stations with 2,326 operational outlets, empowering 1.32 lakh artisans, weavers, and small producers who now connect directly with millions of daily travellers.

Launched in 2022, OSOP has generated direct economic opportunities for over 1.32 lakh beneficiaries nationwide, breathing life into endangered crafts from Northeast clay pottery and bamboo artefacts to spices, handlooms, and indigenous sweets elsewhere. At Tenkasi Junction in Tamil Nadu, for instance, these outlets embody localised distinction, offering travellers authentic essence of place. Beyond commerce, the scheme exemplifies Vocal for Local, converting stations into hubs of community enterprise while sustaining traditions at risk of oblivion.

This fusion of culture and commerce underscores rail’s role in equitable development. OSOP bridges artisans to vast markets without intermediaries, amplifying incomes and preserving intangible heritage amid globalisation. As outlets proliferate, the initiative heralds a model where transit infrastructure doubles as economic equaliser, proving that mobility can nurture rooted prosperity.
