Sajan Sahu’s story from Paladi Kala village in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh, exemplifies the transformative power of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY‑G). Once trapped in a crumbling mud hut where every monsoon brought collapse and despair, Sahu, a daily wage labourer, now lives in a sturdy pucca home, thanks to timely instalments under the scheme. The collapse of a wall during heavy rains had heightened his fears, but PMAY turned that nightmare into security, allowing his family to focus on dignity rather than survival.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s administration has accelerated PMAY, approving 24.37 lakh homes against a 26.27 lakh target, with 17.14 lakh completed in two years (a record pace). Sajan’s gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Sai reflects the scheme’s ripple effect: disaster resilient designs, mason training for 3 lakh rural workers, and integration with sanitation create self reliant villages.
PMAY‑G isn’t just housing, it’s social engineering. For Chhattisgarh’s tribal belts like Sakti, it counters migration by boosting incomes and stability. Scaling this requires vigilant monitoring to avoid delays, ensuring every hut becomes a home. Sajan’s new walls aren’t mere bricks, they’re the foundation of hope.
