Dhami Reviews Social Welfare Department, Transfers Rs 145.42 Crore Pension to 9.8 Lakh Beneficiaries

Dehradun, July 8, 2026:  Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday reviewed the Social Welfare Department and directed officials to design all schemes not just for current needs but for the next 25 years as well. He said welfare programmes should remain effective over time and become examples of best practices for other states.

Dhami said the state government’s goal is not merely to launch schemes, but to build a lasting and efficient system that can meet the needs of future generations. He stressed that social security, education and dignity are the right of every eligible citizen.

The chief minister instructed officials to complete the construction of Baboo Jagjivan Ram boys’ hostels at Doiwala in Dehradun, Pines in Nainital and the Baboo Jagjivan Ram girls’ hostel at Someshwar in Almora by October without fail. He said these facilities should soon provide better residential and educational support to Scheduled Caste students.

Dhami also directed the department to integrate its schemes more effectively and ensure careful financial management and better use of resources in implementation and construction work. He said that as soon as citizens complete 60 years of age, eligible persons should automatically come under the old age pension system so they do not have to go through unnecessary procedures and can receive benefits on time.

During the review, the chief minister also transferred the June 2026 pension amount for various social welfare pension schemes through DBT in a one click process from the government residence auditorium. A total of 9,80,950 beneficiaries received nearly Rs 145.42 crore directly in their bank accounts.

The move was presented as part of the state government’s effort to make welfare delivery faster, simpler and more transparent. Officials said the direct transfer system reduces delays and strengthens confidence in public welfare administration.

Cabinet Minister Khajan Das, the Social Welfare Secretary and other senior officials of the department were present at the meeting.
