Agriculture becomes more rewarding when farmers have access to timely advice, reliable irrigation and fair markets. The Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Narsinghpur brought these elements together by creating a platform for farmers to interact with experts, see modern equipment and learn from fellow cultivators. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav addressed the event through video conferencing and urged farmers to adopt improved farming practices.
Narsinghpur has a distinct identity in advanced agriculture. The Mahotsav recognised this strength by showcasing modern farm machinery, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems and agricultural innovations. Progressive farmers also shared their experiences, including work on narwai management and super seeder sowing, natural farming and vermicompost units, and natural farming with drip-based production.
Such exchanges are valuable because farming knowledge grows through practice. A farmer who has successfully used a new method can often explain its practical challenges better than a brochure. But advice must be suited to local soil, water availability and crops. Farmers should be encouraged to test new techniques on a small scale and adopt what works for their land.
The Chief Minister also emphasised irrigation and better use of water resources, along with the river-linking initiative. Water is central to agricultural prosperity, but its use must be planned carefully. Efficient irrigation, water conservation and protection of local water sources are necessary if farming is to remain sustainable.
The Mahotsav also honoured progressive farmers and meritorious students. Recognition can encourage innovation, but support must continue beyond the event. Farmers need access to quality seeds, timely credit, extension services and fair prices for their produce. Without these, new techniques may not translate into higher income.
The goal of farmer prosperity is achievable when knowledge reaches the field and markets reward good production. The Balram Krishi Mahotsav can play an important role if it becomes a continuing link between farmers, agricultural experts and market opportunities. The experiences shared by farmers in Narsinghpur show that innovation is already taking root; the task is to help it grow.
